The Disadvantages of Free VPN

Free VPNs are a great option for those looking to test a service without spending a dime. They typically come with limitations or disadvantages. As opposed to premium VPNs, they don’t invest in their infrastructure, provide lower speeds and fewer servers. Free VPNs also offer only a limited amount of data you can use per month, making them unsuitable for torrenting or streaming.

They may not always provide adequate encryption. They can allow hackers to access your personal information and track you online. This could be risky, especially if bad actors make use of your information to commit financial fraud or steal your credit card numbers or drain your bank account.

Many free VPNs are funded by advertisements and bombard you with ads, slowing down your internet speed. Ads not only eat up your data and WiFi, but can also affect your computer’s central processing unit (CPU) and operating system. Moreover, some of these advertisements are infected by malware which makes your internet experience more difficult and risky.

Another issue with free vpn is that they usually sell your browsing information to third-party. This could compromise your privacy as apps and websites begin to show advertisements based on the private data that you’re trying to keep private with a VPN. Paid VPNs don’t do this. They use the money you pay for to develop new features and upgrade their infrastructure and improve security.
